Monica’s Story

The American Dream in Action

Monica’s father, Felix Jurasits, came to this country from Hungary with a vision for a better life. He got a union job, bought a house, and raised a family.

Monica grew up in a close-knit, working-class immigrant neighborhood in the Lehigh Valley, a community that looked out for each other, that shared values and struggled and celebrated together.

Breaking barriers as a first-generation college student, Monica earned her BS in Medical Technology from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science.

After graduation, Monica and her husband Mark moved to Village Shires, where she launched her career in the laboratory at St. Mary Hospital in Langhorne.

After moving to Warwick Township, she returned to La Salle University for her Master’s Degree in Science Education, and in 1999, she became a public school science teacher – a role she’s held for 27 years.

Monica and Mark raised their daughter, Dr. Rachel Weninger, who recently graduated from veterinary school. Together they enjoy their two rescue German Shepherds, trivia nights and classic movies.

Call to Action

Why I'm running for District 178

For years, I’ve stood at the front of a science classroom teaching young people how to ask good questions, weigh the evidence, and reach conclusions they can defend. That training — curiosity, honesty, and a respect for facts — is exactly what’s missing in too much of our politics today.

I watched our public schools stretched thin by unfair funding. I listened to seniors worried about being taxed out of homes they’ve lived in for decades. I talked with families anxious about healthcare costs and the safety of their drinking water. And I decided I couldn’t just hope someone else would step up.

So I’m stepping up. I’m running for Pennsylvania State Representative in the 178th District because our communities deserve a representative who treats public service like the serious, evidence-based work it is — not a stage for chaos and division.

What I believe

Good government is steady, honest, and practical. It funds great schools. It gives working families and retirees real relief. It protects clean water and holds polluters accountable. It defends the freedom to vote and the rule of law. And it does all of this by listening first — to teachers, to small-business owners, to seniors, to neighbors of every political stripe.

I’ll bring the same approach to Harrisburg that I bring to the classroom: do the homework, follow the evidence, and never stop putting people first.

Why This Matters

Not a Career Politician. Real Solutions.

Science teaches you to listen. In my classroom, I learned that the best solutions come from asking good questions and actually hearing the answers. Harrisburg needs more of that.

Teaching is problem-solving. How do you reach a kid who learns differently? How do you make a tough concept click? Every single day, you’re adapting, figuring things out, trying again. That’s exactly what good policy requires.

“Our government works best when it’s grounded in facts, guided by integrity, and focused on the people it serves—not special interests.”

Facts over ideology.
Whether it’s education funding, environmental protection, or economic policy—let’s follow the evidence, not the loudest voice in the room.

Hard questions deserve honest answers. Whether it’s healthcare, housing, climate, or foreign policy entanglements—I won’t dodge the tough ones or pretend there are easy answers when there aren’t.

Integrity isn’t negotiable. I won’t take corporate PAC money or vote against my district to stay in party leadership. You deserve a representative who works for you, not for their next promotion.

The road here

A path of service, not politics

From the classroom to the campaign trail — the experiences that shaped how I’ll lead for District 178.

The Classroom

A career in science education

I built a career teaching students to think critically and follow the evidence — the foundation of everything I’ll do in office.

Community Roots

Putting down roots in Bucks County

Raising a family and getting to know the neighbors, small businesses, and schools that make Warwick, Northampton, Upper Southampton, and Wrightstown special.

Showing up for local issues

Stepping into civic life – Taking on leadership in civic life – as President of a non-partisan voting rights organization, she led Bucks County’s census efforts and fought to protect democracy, voting rights, and fair districts.
